About Børge Mogensen:

Born in Aalborg, Denmark in 1914, Børge Mogensen was a celebrated designer known for his significant contributions to the world of furniture design. His educational journey began at the Copenhagen School of Arts and Crafts, where he studied furniture design under the esteemed Professor Kaare Klint from 1936 to 1938. Continuing his studies, Mogensen enrolled at the School of Furniture at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts from 1938 to 1941, where he also served as Klint's teaching assistant.

In 1942, Mogensen assumed the position of head of design at the Danish Consumers Coöperative Society (FDB). However, his aspirations led him to establish his own design office in 1950, where he became one of the influential figures in shaping and popularizing the renowned "Danish Modern" design style. Throughout his career, Mogensen remained dedicated to creating affordable and practical designs, with a particular emphasis on utilizing wood as his preferred material. Some of his notable clients included Fredericia Stolefabrik, Fritz Hansen, and Søborg Møbelfabrik. His portfolio encompassed an array of impressive projects, such as the Spokeback Sofa (1945), the Spanish Chair (1959), as well as various shelving and storage designs.

Mogensen's aesthetic vision was characterized by its clean lines and high functionality. His exceptional work was recognized and honored with several prestigious awards, including the Eckersberg Medal in 1950, the annual prize from the Copenhagen Carpentry Guild in 1953, and the C.F. Hansen Medal in 1972.
