Jean Prouvé Cité Chair in Papyrus & Japanese Red for Vitra
The Cité armchair is an early masterpiece by the French designer and engineer Jean Prouvé. Originally designed in 1930 to furnish the student residence halls at the Cité Universitaire in Nancy, Prouvé also made this chair a permanent feature of his own home (see photos).
This particular chair is finished in papyrus Mello fabric, Japanese red powder coated metal frame and with tan leather belt armrests.
Prior to our possession, this chair was purchased new by the original owner for their residence in New York. Their return to Melbourne dictated letting go of this exceptional piece.
Rare to find one for sale in Australia aside from ordering new directly from Vitra, although this colour/fabric configuration doesn't seem to be a current option anymore.
